Moving out is one of the hardest topics that parents can ever discuss with their children.  For children, the idea of moving out is something that they would never entertain more so when they have been in the old house for such a long time.  Moving out for them would mean leaving their friends behind, forgetting about their best buddies in the community, and practically taking from them their comfort zone.

This will give them the time to think about it and essentially preparing them earlier and better.
 
Along with properly communicating the moving out idea with the children is getting them involved.  Although this may not involve decision making, just the mere thought that you are getting your children involved about the whole idea of moving out will make them feel that they are valued and that they are important.  This reassures the children that no matter where the family is going, they are always part of the entire decision.
